Hi,
second brass beam glued in and waiting for the glue to set now.

I couldn't wait, so still this evening I placed the wheels into the beams and put the frame on a smooth tile.
 
Standing square on all four wheels.
Rolling fairly smoothly, one wheel is a bit sticky, but I'm sure a few strokes with a file will sort that out.
I'll either have to countersink the holes or use other M2 bolts.

Hi guys,
this is a project that I started many years ago, trying to get this crane/coaling station to work.
I have in the past tried to build the winch to let the hook move up and down and eventually bought
a miniature motor with gearbox in Germany.  Problem is the motor needs to be operated with only 1.5V.
The Märklin digital system puts out about 19V. I have tried a voltage regulator, but the loss is very high and the motor very weak.
So I have to figure out something else now.
This is a photo of how it looks inside the crane cap now, small motor with self mage winch, it sort of works, but I definitely need to improve this.

Last night I found the original motor and gearbox that I build many years ago for this project.
Much to big.
What I do like about it is the weight which should keep the crane stable.
Found some other motors and a box of gears as well, so I will figure out something.

Unfortunately this motor gearbox combination has ceased to function. 
I've tried all sorts of things, but to no avail.

So I decided to built a new drive mechanism, I found my box of gears.
This is the drive to turn the operators cab and with that the crane.
As I have no idea how fast the motor spins and what sort of gearing I need I decided to build a prototype
out of old styrene.
Not really square, but to get an idea of the turning speed it should work.
Unfortunately it turns out that its a bit to wide on the one side. Red arrow photo two.
First photo shows the motor with gearbox.
Second photo the black arrow shows the shaft from my gearbox which is 2 mm diameter and the gear which has an id of 2,9 mm.
I'll have to turn a spacer in the morning.
Third photo shows the base of the operators cab with its cast on gear.

Hi there,
so this morning I turned the spacer that I needed and fitted it.
Works.
Even on the slowest speed setting it turn much to fast.
This is what the crane operator will look like. 
So back to the drawing board and redesign this motor and gearbox, to get it smaller and slower.
