Hi,
small bit of progress.
I modified the second servo tonight and connected it to the power supply.
Fitted the gear and viola the cab can turn.
For now just loosely holding it in my hand, but my idea works. :thumb: :thumb:
Now to properly mount this servo with some space left for electronics.
Stay tuned.

Hi,
okay I mounted the servo last night with some contact glue just to hold it in position.
It works. :thumb:
The system still needs a bit of fine tuning and I need to reposition the winch servo by 1 mm to the side.
Then I need to figure out the electrics.

Oops.
I wanted to paint the frame of the crane, due to the cold weather I carefully warm it up a
bit with a heat gun.
To much. ::)
Fortunately only the one ladder sustained damage.

Then I finally found the base for this project which I built a few years ago.
Note the slot in the plywood, a small rod will pro dude through this slot and move the crane from side to side.
Some N scale track which will be cut in half  so that I have one on each side for the crane to roll on.

Off course for the crane to work there has to be a drive system.
Old printer motor with a toothed belt much like a cars cam belt.
Some electronics with limit switches. :thumb:

Hi everybody,
this drive system was direct and the only way for me to control the speed was to reduce voltage.
Problem then is that the motor looses a lot of power.
I have been thinking about a geared speed reduction.
Today I made up a bracket to hold the gear and toothed belt sprocket, this will be pulled off the motor,
the motor will then get a 16 tooth gear to mesh with the 60 tooth gear on the shaft.
That will give me a 3,75 : 1 gear ratio allowing the motor to turn faster while reducing the speed of the crane.
Need to get a 3 mm reamer this week so that I can enlarge he holes in my two gears to fit the sprocket and shaft of the motor.
Here is a photo of the new set up, parts are just placed loosely so not straight.

Hi,
so today I had a few minutes and quickly turned the spacer needed for the gear.
All assembled.

Hi everybody,
no real work done, but I did find the two coal bunkers and can now place everything
together to check for fit and how it will look together.
I did glue down a sheet of cork which will now be the foundation for all the other things on this.
Just a few photos of what this looks like now.
Will play around with this for a few days and think it through.
