Night shots are looking good.  :thumb:
Yes night photography is an art.
Fortunately now with digital cameras its easy to experiment
and try out different setting, till you get a nice effect.

Hi everyone, thank you for the feedback.  :thumb:

A further update as to what is going to happen.

The next stage of this build is to power up the layout.

This is going to be exciting times for if all goes well the trains will be connected to the Control Unit and be able to run the trains.

That is off course if I get all the dust off the tracks, but that will be another story.  ::)

I made a mock up of the Power Supply Board (PSB)and I would like to hear your comments.

There will be spacers below the PSB to allow for ventilation.

All cables will be running in ring binders just to keep it neat.

The Märklin transformers will be used for the street lighting.

The small Trix transformer is just in case I need more power.  8)

Incoming power will go through the LM317 Power Regulators and the current will be limited to 1.5A.

The power regulating circuits need to be built.

Let me know what you think.

Ciao

Careful if you switch that on all at once, your neighbors lights may just
go dim.  >:D
Looking good.  :thumb:

Hi everyone,

Small update. Wanted to add the Castle lights and the flickering unit for the rail crossing to my Power Supply Board. Will only take a few minutes, Yeah..... :o
And guess what, the one led is dead. Sounds familiar, and the opening up of two weeks work started.

I found the fault with a solder break in the heat shrink sleeve. Make note to yourself to ensure the heat gun setting is NOT too high. :bluduh:
Re-soldered and all is working including the additional wiring.

Night shoot photos to follow.  :-*

Have a great one and stay safe.

Good day everyone,

Have I got good news!

The Main Power to the front of the switch board is on and the complete Märklin Digital System is powered up!

No smoke, no loud bangs with that electronic smell and the power is still on in the complex.  8)

Now the digital wiring from the tracks to the Control Unit and the hook up of the Booster.

Feel very happy about this.

Have a great day.

Hi everyone,

small update, but a big mile stone, the track is live again after many years.  :D

The wiring is connected and the two circuits are not clashing.

Unfortunately I cannot show the small video I made, however a picture of said action.

Those that know the big rules of connecting the CU and the Booster, it is critical. No smoke!

Below the track of the connections made for the CU and the Booster.

Lot of time spent under the layout. Missed my friend J with his beach chair on wheels.

Hi everyone,

The plan for the weekend was to connect some decoders for the slip solenoids, but to no avail.

On switching the Control Unit on, the short circuit protection kicked in protecting the Control Unit etc.

After several fruitless attempts, wishful thinking, and a call to Jörg there was only one thing to do and it was to check where I was working last.

Unfortunately I worked on wiring, securing the tracks with screws and painting the tracks.

The short story is after undoing all the screws and tracks and undoing all the track power wires in the station the short disappeared. After re connecting everything the short was back.

Traced it down to an additional earth wire soldered onto the track forming a solder blob at the end of the wire where this was touching the copper strip under the flex tracks.

The first picture you can clearly see the arcing at the area of the short.

The second picture is with all the solder removed. So much space between fish plate and the copper strips of the flex track.

The good part is it is all working again.

That's all folks.
Enjoy your week.

Ciao

The devil is in the detail.
You are not the first and definitely not the last person to do that.

The good thing is that you found it and it is working again.
Some time the hobby is frustrating, but once it is fixed it is all good...... All part of life that make the hobby interesting
