Good day dear Train friends,

The Building Inspector visited the site and was not happy.

Where's the pit, the workshop floor next to the track. Moaning about the workers going to brake their ankles, no filler between the sleepers.

Everything out!!!

So all the machinery for the locoshed back onto the trucks for storage. :o :o

The pit was cut with a modified jigsaw blade to allow a specific depth.

Of course the track had to be unscrewed and removed.  :( Then all the wiring had to be removed.  :o

And then the locoshed had to be removed. Had to find the hidden screws.

Vacumed whilst the jigsaw was making dust.  :D

The pit fitted beautifully and a frame of tape around said pit to round off the edges nicely and then painted.

The pit was made from 1mm styrene.

Some more pics.....

Had to put steps in the pit for the Stoker and Machinist when going down in the pit with their oils and rags etc.

The locoshed had to be modified. I decided not to cut the base out, but only the pit area.

Whilst the paint dried I made the "concrete Floors" for next to the track.

The concrete floors were made from Balsa wood, glued and once set sprayed with grey primer.

The concrete floors are only lying loosely for the moment until the track and sleepers are weathered.

Hope you like it. Let me know.  More to come....

That's a mean building inspector.  :)

I see you are trying to solve the problem that us three rail users have.
The center studs for current pick up.
Only one tie in the pit will not work, the pick up shoe will drop down to far and get caught.
I have seen a neat solution to this in a magazine once, this person had a brass plate mounted on a rod connected
to a solenoid that at the push of a button was in the middle of the pit and then could be retracted again to give you the
view into the open pit.

Pity about the centre stud - you'll have to reverse into shed...

What about inserting a thin piece of glass, perspex or acetate in/over the pit, level with the ties?

Good day dear Train Friends,

Here an update on the latest in the locoshed.

The inserts between the sleepers are in (unpainted).

I believe the inserts were around 130. Each cut to 4.2 x 15.0mm with a few spare.

And then everything got painted.

The Foreman seems happy with it.

Then made platforms around the shed from Balsa wood to cover the sleepers.

Instead of sanding the ends down to tera firma I made steps with off cut Balsa. Railings to follow where required.

And then the weathering. First primer coats with sanding in between.

Brown wash paint dabbed all over and then wiped off. You guys know the drill.  ;)
