Rivers & Waterfalls....
« on: December 09, 2014, 01:46:21 PM »
I'm quite sure of it that most of us Model Railway Nuts have somehow applied his or her own 'modus operandi' when it comes to water. However, not everyone favours the modelling of running water or waterfalls.... :loco:... through my experience with my previous Layout I finished my river with success.
Applying layers of 'liquid' works but I use locally available mix that allows me to determine the setting rate, density, colour and ripple effect. This includes the actual waterfall that in most cases turn out to be quite dull, when the liquid hardens. Modelling a rapidly moving river presents the feature of under currents and visible underwater rock with current changes around corners and the likes there of....

That's looking really awesome MarssWunderworld.  :thumb:

This is my attempt  ::) First time round failed horribly (1st picture) - Water effects from Woodland Scenics reacted with the foam and paint  ???
So I tried again and it was a great success. I'm very happy....

Loo,
After your traggedy........what changes did you make? Did you switch from WS - Their Water takes very long to dry and you can only throw so much at a time!
Another question; what technique & material / media... :stir:...did you use for the actual waterfall?

Good Afternoon,

I took everything out and worked it off with kreet stone, then once that was dry I painted a few layers 2 part resin.
Then I painted it again and used the WoodlandSenics Water again. I think I did it in 3 thin layers.

The waterfall I used WoodlandSenics Water effects. It looks like white cilicone out the bottel, but it dries see through with a glossy finish.
I first poured a little bit of WS water over the rock to see where the natural flow will go. Then I took a piece of plastic (to work on) and with the water effects I made lines (like if you put pieces of string next too each other). Then with with a paintbrush I slightly mix the lines together. (Hard to explain). Once it was dry I glued it to the mountain with the same stuff.

If you want I can put a tutorial up, it's very difficult to explain and unfortunately I do not have pictures.

Great work Loo

I love the turbulent water behind the kayakers. Such  a small detail that makes the scene that more realistic.
Regards
Wes

Just had the pleasure of looking at this layout and seeing the trains in operation today.
I can assure you its even better in real life than on the pics.
The trains run very smoothly. :thumb:

As he was behind my back with his wonderful layout I have noticed it too - it looks way better in real life than on these pictures...

And yes, the trains is very smooth, but I really keep the layout super clean, I'm sure that make a massive difference.
