Good Morning All,

I started with the Electrical work yesterday
It is the one thing I do not really like doing, but have to, to be able to run trains.

When I built the frame I drilled holes for the wiring, so I used those for the main bus.
I fed the main through the holes to create a U shape. One end was connect to a hook and the other end will be a connector block.
The Connector block will have two connections, on to the controller and one to the 2nd board.
The second board is done the same.

Picture 01 - All the feeders is in, they were fitted when I layed the track.
Picture 02 - Main bus in.
Picture 03 - Starting to connect the feeders to the main bus.

Steve, will you please be so kind as so post one or two pictures of your push pull connections with the switch?

Thank you very much and speak soon.
Cheers, Evert

Hi Evert,
that last photo has me confused.
Red and black connected together on one metal hook.
That looks like a dead short to me.

Good point - I confuse easily, but that one got me too?

LOL  Noooooo. It is only the Red that I made the loop from for the hook. The black is no where close......

No, progress have been halted as I can not get the push-pull mechanism of the Points to work  >:(
Struggling a bit with that.

But as soon as it is working or I find a solution I will update again.

Cheers,
Evert

Hello Everybody.....

Yea, I know it was slightly quiet on my side, but I had to make one point work before I will make 10 of them work.
So after some work and searching I finally got it working. And thank you to Steve for the nice explanation and all the info and pictures.  :thumb:

Here is the parts list

The Point : Peco Code 100 Electrofrog. (modified for ultimate performance)
A DPDT Sliding switch.
2mm Welding Rods for Push/Pull leaver. (knobs I will still have to buy or make)
1.4mm Piano Wire (50mm long) from the sliding switch to the Point.

Frog Wire will go to the centre of the switch
Red to the one side and Black to the other.

Now I have to make 10 of these .....

Pic01 - drill 0.8mm hole in the switch (I started with 0.8mm Piano Wire, did not work, then 1mm, then 1.4mm)
Pic02 and 03 - block with switch and wires fitted.
Pic 04 - Fitment under layout.

Cheers and speak again soon.

Another option rather than using welding rods - use bicycle spokes and the insides of chocolate blocks as connectors (these ideas also from Steve). This is for the sliding switch throwing only! Piano wire still to go to the Peco switch. Eric Roberts used baby safety pins for going up to the Peco points.

I don't have any pictures, but I do have a bundle of spokes you can have / use.... 8)

Good Morning All....

OK, so last night I made the holed from the bottom of the layout up to the points.
Then I measured and positioned the switches.

So I could cut the wooden blocks and drill the holes for the Piano Wire and the 2mm Push\Pull Rod.
I finished the first 3  I have another 6 to make..

Oh, Ed, Yes, Steve told me about the bicycle spokes, but I have the welding rods and it works. And yes I will extend them with big connector blocks to the front of the layout.

Cool, speak again soon.
Cheers, Evert

You had better make sure the switches are properly wired BEFORE you mount them; there is no way in hell you will be able to solder wires on once fitted !

Hello, Hello.....

Yea, it's been a while, but I have been working on the layout and last night I got to run a train..... And WOW, it felt soooooooo GOOD.
Track is not super clean, but the little Koff ran super slow and with no hesitation.

I still have to work a pit on the points, going to add a block with a hole for the push/pull lever, as there is just to much play on the switch.
But overall, it really works well.

Here is some pictures.

Wiring for frog switches is also done
  • Track power - Black, Blue (frog polarity) Red
  • Signals - Green, Brown, Yellow

Cheers, Evert.
