Hello, Hello All,

OK, so the idea is to weather all the track, so I decided to change the wiring of the turnouts to make them more reliable.

I have all Electrofrog Peco Code 100, but I have two versions.
The new ones everything is done by Peco for the conversion, but the older ones you have to modify everything.

Picture 01 - Starting the work  :thumb:

Picture 02 - New version:
Bottom is the stock Point, top is the conversion.
Remove the connecting wire from the frog and solder a new wire from the inner to the outer track, this will supply the movable part of the Point power and not rely on the touch connection when it is switched.

Picture 03 - Old version:
Bottom is the stock Point, top is the conversion.
Much more work, cut the ties away and then solder the wire on.
Picture 04 and 05:
Then turn the Point around and the track have to be cut the same way as the New version.

More to follow......

To install:

Out end of the point (4 rails) - Picture 01
Insulator Fishplates will be installed on the inside rails and Metal Fishplates on the outside Rails

In end of the point (2 rails) - Picture 02
Install Metal Fishplates on both rails.

Picture 03
Then to power the frog a wire (I chose blue) needs to be soldered to the frog
This will be connected to a switch to control the frog polarity (a Peco PL-13 can be used) I will use a standard on-off Slide switch with 3 poles.
Center will be Blue, Left and Right will be the Red and Black wires from the Track Power.

Then for the painting of the track......

I started off with a light brown dry brush across the Rail Ties.
Then I painted a Red, Black and brown mix for the tie plates.
Then I took the same Red, Black and brown mix and watered it down and washed the rails.

I like the look and I think with some light grey Ballast it will look very realistic.

Cool, we will speak again, let me carry on with the painting...... Very slow process, but I really enjoy doing it.
Cheers, Evert

Good Morning All on this extremely COLD morning...... Wow, I'm freezing.....

I finished painted all the Points I also soldered on all the wires and all the points is in place.

Picture 01 - First step was to sand all the cork to give it a nice smooth flat surface.
Picture 02 - I then made holes for the wiring and put all the points in place.
Picture 03 and 04 - First set of points is fitted and glued to the cork.

Next step is to cut, paint and fit some Flex track upto the next point. Then that can be glued down too.

There is still some cork to be layed, but the idea is to build a Coaling Facility, but I do not have anything yet so I do not want to add the track until then.

@ ColWer and capeklr, is there not something between Wolfgang's collection that is still available?

Thank you all and we will speak again soon.
Cheers, Evert.

Hi Evert,
I would have to go to Gordon's Bay to have a look.
All buildings and related stuff is still there.

While there are a number of photos of the progress being made with the layout, there are none of you actually working !   Are we being expected to believe, without proof to the contrary, that this is all your own work ?

Hi Evert,

So nicely done. With all the bits and pieces on the floor I can see you are very active.

There is a saying in our house, "making sawdust and smoke from wood".

Stay safe!

Good Evening All.....

Yea, I should put the layout on a table, but luckily for me I do not have a problem working or sitting on the floor.
And it is not a permanent solution either. I need to put brackets up in the garage and then it will fit nicely against the wall above my N scale layout.

But here is some more pictures of my progress......

I painted and Fitted the Inspection Pit from Peco.
And I fitted some more track......

Regards, Evert.
Speak again soon.

Hello All....

I layed the last of the track for now this morning.....
Next is do do some wiring so that I can actually get power to the rails

I can finish the balance of the track once I have decided on a Coaling Facility for the front corner of the layout.

Cheers, and speak again soon.
