LooVille HO Shunting Layout
« on: May 09, 2020, 12:05:55 PM »
Hello Everybody.....

So, after I have visited Steve Smith a few times, I really like the idea of a HO shunting layout.
The idea is to build it with every possible detail available to me and I want to make it as realistic as possible.
I have seen and done some really awesome stiff with my N Scale as well as the z, but HO will just be the icing on the cake.

I have been collecting for almost a year now, and have 3 Steam, 2 Diesel and 2 Electrical Locomotives.
I also have a set of small Passenger Coaches and 4 goods wagons. Still need to get a few more goods wagons.
Then for the track, I decided to use Peco Code 100. I have all the track as well as Points.

My dad helped me with the timber for the bench-work, so that is already cut  Just assembly needed still.

Buildings and all other scenery I will have to collect still, I have nothing  :(  :(

So, here is the idea.... Picture 01.
I designed the track plan using SCARM - Picture 02.
And the 3D view is generated, I added a few buildings, Station and Train Maintenance Shed I would like. Give a better idea  :thumb:

Keep watching and I will start assembly of the benchwork.
Foam is still a problem as blue sheets is not available, so I might use normal white Styrofoam.

Cheers,
Evert

Scratch build.

If you want the best possible detail and most probably accurate 1:87 scale then I would consider going the scratch build route.
Most kit are quite a bit below 1:87 scale. More like 1:100 and less.

Hello All.....

OK, so I was searching for buildings during the week and I have also made a small change to the Goods Line. Changed the point from a Left to a Right, think the flow of the track looks better now.
Picture 01.

Picture 02 is just a quick 3D view
Then I found this Vollmer Station. Still a kit, so I can build it and add all the detail I want. The idea is to super detail this.

More to follow

So this weekend it was time to start the build  :thumb:

My dad have tons of wood, so I got it all from him.
I had to go and buy Polystyrene sheets as the Blue-Foam is a bit out of stock.

So here goes.....
Wood was cut 1250mm planks and 600mm planks. I'm building 2x frames that will connect together.
20x20mm bracing with holes drilled for the wiring.

I finished the frames and the Polystyrene was cut and glued.

Next, I have to draw the track-plan over on the Polystyrene.

Enjoy the pictures till now.
More in the week

Cheers, Evert

Garage is my Train Room, but I work on the Stoep.

Awesome Evert,

I work best in the dining room with my best friend/wife.

The light frame I made is helping me a lot especially with lighting.

Ciao and stay safe.

Good Morning All.

Hope everybody is still doing good.
I started with the In and Out line, Main Line last night.
So I measured 360mm from the front of the board and pinned a piece of twine , then measure 360mm on the other side and pinned the twine there too. Gave a nice straight line.
Then I glued one half of the cork on the one side and the other half on the other side.

I cut the cork from a 3mm sheet, 19mm wide and sanded the shoulders 45 degree with some sandpaper.

Next step is to draw the rest and then cut and glue the cork down.

Cheers and speak again soon.

Hello All....

Small change..... All the track have been drawn and it looks like everything will work well.
I will also be able to split the two frames once the track is layed

Cheers and speak again soon.

Good Morning All......

Some more progress was made last night, almost all the Cork is layed.

Then this morning I also received....

Station - Vollmer 3524
Signal Tower - Kibri Set 38994
Goods Shed - Kibri Set 38994
Platform Details - Kibri Set 38994

Now I'm exited and I can start to build the complete station scene......

Cheers, Evert Loo
