Programming\Display Track HO, N and z

Good Morning All.....

New project 

Something I wanted to do for a very long time but never got round doing it, so now is the time.....
So I went on my PC, CorelDraw and draw a quick mock-up to get the basic wood sizes.
I drew it to be 200mm x 800mm, but when I started the build I decided to make it 900mm long.
I used 20mm x 200mm SA Pine and 20mm Styrofoam sheet.

Then, I cut all the wood and got all the parts together.
Built the frame

OK, so the frame is built.......
Now for sanding..... then adding a section of Masonite for the programmer 160mm x 200mm. Nailed and glue in place.
Next is to paint the wood. I used the dark stain (indonesian teak) I always use, thin it with a bit of water. I do about 3 layers with light sanding in-between.

Then I cut a section of 20mm StyroFoam to fit inside the frame.
This was glued in place with Cornice Adhesive from Alcolin.

Now everything must dry properly......

So, the glue set......
I glued the Styrofoam 5mm higher than the edge of the wooden frame.
So to work it off nicely, I put a bead of silicone in the corner - Picture 01
Then it was painted green - Picture 02

Picture 04 and 05, I have painted the top of the foam earth brown.

Next step is to look at the track and the cutting of the cork.
The idea of this is to leave a small section exposed to show how it is made.....

Good Morning All.....

I started last night by cutting some cork and some more Styrofoam. - Picture 01
The idea is to lift the HO track a bit.....

Picture 02 - Think this can work well..... 

While the Styrofoam and the Cork is drying I started to make a z scale tunnel portal.
The idea is to build the side of a mountain to hide the programmer. The HO Tunnel entrance I'm going to sculpt out of creatstone to look like a rockface.

Picture 03 - Cutting the Styrofoam with my home made hot wire cutter
Picture 04 - I took a hot needle and scribed stones into the Styrofoam
Picture 05 - Painted light grey and then painted a dark brown wash over that. Not finished yet, but it is getting there

So, the glue for the cork of the HO was dry.
Lifted the weights and it looks awesome.....

I mixed some creatstone and filled in the gaps.... - Picture 01
Once I was happy with that I left it 15min just so that the creatstone could settle.
Picture 02 - glues on the back of the cork for the N track 
I put weights on and left it over night as it was already 12 at night.....

So now this morning it looks like this..... Picture 03 and 04
Track is not fixed yet, will do that at a later stage.

Good Morning Everybody....

Did some work again last night  Not a lot, but things have to dry, so yea..... waiting, waiting.....

I finished the Tunnel Portals, made a edge from cardboard, glued it on and finished the painting. - Picture 01, 02 and 03
The portals was also glued in position on the Display track.

I cut the first profile for the mountain and glued that into position, also added some rocks as a start. Picture 04 and 05
Once this is all dry I should have a good base to start the build

The lockdown period really awakes new projects and ideas. We love this one, always wanted one myself. We love your inventive ideas.

Can't wait for the electrics etc. and to see this Programming Display working.

Good Evening Everybody,

So more work and a lot of progress was made.
Saturday I finished the frame of the mountain and I also finished the electrical work and was able to run a HO Locomotive 

Here is the process....

Picture 01 - I decided to built a box from Hardboard as it would keep the electronics as well as the programmer safe.
Picture 02 and 03 - Styrofoam frame for the mountain.

Before I could close the mountain I had to be sure that I could fit the electronics without having to break any part of it.
So I had to work through the access panels I left in the back.

Have to say, it was difficult, but it did work.

Picture 01 - I made up a connector block with the wiring from the power and the Programmer to the HO and N track, z I will keep seperate as it use 8V and not 12V as the HO and N.
Picture 02 - Soldered wires to the ends of the HO and N track.
Picture 03 - Fitted the connector block at the bottom for easy access.
