Small update.
Want to use some stone in my river bed.
Went to visit Stodels and bought a few bags of small stones.
Can't really see what's in the bag, but you sort of get an idea.
Got home, opened the bags and washed the stones in the kitchen sink.  >:D
While in the bag I did not realize that the white stones are so brilliantly white and also a bit shiny, not so good.
Two different sizes.

Also got a bag of roundish different colours stones.

Had a bit of time today and selected a few stones and started different arrangements in the river bed.
Also used some water paint to give the plaster a bit of colour.

And a photo with the bridge in place just to see what it looks like.

Letting it all dry nicely now and see if I like it in a few days time.
What do you think?

Hello, Hello....

Looking good  ;D
I assume you will be adding the realistic water still?
I like the idea of using real rocks.

Cheers,
Evert

Only issue with using real rocks - they darken and stay dark...
For long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be

Yes I will be adding water.
I have some Woodland Scenics Realistic Water for that.
I like using real stones/rocks, even my previous layout had some.
Off course for a portable layout it will be a bit heavy.  :)

Most rivers that I have seen had lots of rocks and stones.

No update for a while, just was not happy with the colour of the scenery on my layout, so I tried different shades of grey painting the section numerous times till I was satisfied.
Then I used a very watery wash of black paint which was then quickly wiped off again with a wet sponge to create shadows
in the crevices.
Then dry brushing a bit of white from top down to create highlights.
Hope you can see it in the photo.
I am a lot happier now.  :thumb:

Was lucky on bidorbuy the other day and got this beautiful Roco 6 axle low loader with a finely detailed and printed wooden crate.

How do you know that your wife supports your hobby?
If she comes with you to the hobby shop, helps you choose items, tells you to take more and then pays for it before you can.
Some scenery material.

A few trees as well.

Some scenery work.
Path way has some sand on it.
We have the idea to blend the backdrop into the scenery by matching the colours more or less to the backdrop and gluing some foliage against it. Then I want to place/plant some trees in front to break the line a bit more.
Lets see how this works out.
First photo.

Now I have to tidy up, pack everything away as this week we are getting family from overseas visiting with 2 small children.
I have a supply of cable ties handy to tie up their hands before entering the train room.  >:D
