LooVille - Marklin Z Scale
« on: October 23, 2017, 07:58:51 AM »
Good Morning All.....

Something very new and totally different.
My wife's (Lizel), brother's wife's (Andria), farther have a collection of Marklin Mini-Club trains.
He used to live in Namibia where het apparently had quite a big layout. When they moved to the cape in '89 the trains sat in boxes till now.

They just sold their house and is packing up en throwing away, so he gave the Z to me to sell.
I wanted some for myself just to play and show off with, so I kept a few and sold the balance.

Here is what I kept......

Oh, he did not have any houses, so I bought the Station from Ed  :thumb:

So I decided to in between and when I can not build on my N Scale I'll build the Z.

This is what I decided on. I did not want to go big, so I went small and extend it a little bit to accommodate for the station I bought.

Pic 01 and 02 is my search.
Pic 03 is laying everything out on the table.
Pic 04 and 05 is the build started :)

Enjoy Cheers,
Evert

Good Morning All,

I had some time during the week so I managed to build the bench work for the z scale layout.
Think it came out nice an will work well.

Here is some pictures. I still have to paint the feet and will then glue some felt under neath that.

Cheers,
Evert.

Good Morning All,

Did some nice work again this weekend on my z scale  :thumb:
Finished the bench work and glued felt underneath the feet.

The bridge I want you only get as a straight, so I'll scratch build it.
Decided to make the base of the bridge out of styrofoam and I'll work from that.

Also started to glue filler pieces into the risers so that the surface for the track it nice and even.

Cheers, hope everybody have a good day.

You'll need lots of tables at future shows.
Your N scale layout with extension, Your Z scale and your dad's N scale.
You'll certainly be the centre of attraction.  ;)

Good Morning All.....

Busy building the bridge.
My first attemt failed hopelessly, so I started from scratch.

Pic 01 and 02
Cut everything by hand but the styro-foam was not strong enough and the thin sections just broke.

Them I first glued so cardboard to the top and then the Styrofoam, much better and I cut everything with the hot wire.
Biiiiiiiiiiiig difference.  :thumb:

Now I can work it off nicely and then paint.
Still have to carve the profiles for the stones, so still lots of work.

Cheers, hope you all have a great weekend.

Good Morning All,

I spent Saturday alone with my son, so when he was sleeping I had some nice time to work on my z scale layout  :thumb:
I finished the bridge off, so now I can start with the detail (carving stones) going to use a hot needle to draw the stones on.

I also decided to use cardboard as a road bed. I gives a very nice smooth finish, so I should not have running issues.
Finished that last night.

Here is some pictures to enjoy.
Cool, speak again.

The cardboard roadbed is a new novel idea.  :thumb:

Something I just remembered - with cork one of the big advantages is the fact that you can sand it smooth or shape it by sanding.

Can this cardboard also be sanded? ???

With very fine sanding paper it is possible yes.
I have built the bridge with it too and I have sanded that to a smooth texture and 100% to size.
