Wireless control from Cell phone
« on: September 12, 2017, 11:50:52 AM »
1 Monocacytrains Bluetooth module for O, HO or some N loco's.
Control from your cell phone, Ipad or tablet.
Just received, brand new but surplus to my requirements. Am doing Arduino controls.
If you're new to wireless I suggest you read their web info and Google in general.
My cost is R763.00. Pm me for delivery anywhere in Cape area or any queries (email for the user manual and instructions).
From their website:
Wireless Model Train Control
Monocacy Trains has developed a wireless module for controlling model train locomotives. Using the power of Bluetooth, you can put yourself in the locomotive like never before.  Install our module and within minutes you will unlock a new level of control, responsiveness and possibility. The control apps, available for iOS and Android, are free and there is no wiring beyond the module connection. Take your model train to the next level!

The Module
•   Small in size, yet packed with functionality (Dimensions: 67 mm x 17mm x 5mm)
•   Proudly designed, developed and manufactured in the USA
•   Powered through the track or a battery
•   Compatible with iOS and Android phones and tablets running Bluetooth Smart 4.0 or above. This includes the iPhone 4s and newer, iPad 3 and newer and the iPod Touch.
•   Add realism to your model train set without additional wiring beyond installing our module
•   Compatible with O, HO and some N gauge locomotives
•   Simple installation
•   Supports up to two light or accessory outputs
The App – You’ll Love It
In designing this module our main goal was simplicity. Monocacy Trains believes technology should make things easier as well as better - so that's what we did. Simply connect a couple wires in your locomotive and download the free app. It's really that easy!
•   Automatic module discovery and setup
•   Name and photo-tag locomotives to add a personal touch
•   Realistic engine (idle, moving and stop), horn and bell sounds for both diesel and steam locomotives
•   Control engines and up to 2 optional outputs per locomotive, e.g. lights
•   Control 2-position turnouts/switches and up to 2 optional outputs per switch, e.g. lights
•   Customize locomotives settings such acceleration rate and maximum throttle
•   Works with most DC motor trains, DCC integrated and compatible with your existing track and power supply or battery powered.

The card is the standard visitι card and a R1 coin for sizing - will just fit some N loco's.

Bump.
Seems to be no interest - wonder if there are ANY cell phone/tablet controlled trains running?

Looks too big, but the main problem is I have a Digitrax system and I have a LNWI on the way, then I can do the same...

Ok, I see the LNWI does the wifi job.
Will you use your cell phone or a tablet?
My grandson (31/2) may be tablet-wise soon and then I'll give it a try.
But I still need to get the Arduino/bluetooth/software/cell ph app up and running as it'll come in at under R100 + a Lipo battery.
The 2 running at the moment is the standard RC toy kit with an ESC and a 2S Lipo battery 1500mAh that runs just about all day (O scale).

A mate of mine is running his layout via Fleischmann's z21 system using his iPhone, iPod and iPad. You then use the free WiThrottle on your devices and it is just that - another throttle.

The difference is we are controlling the system as apposed to controlling a train. That should be a selling point.

Good luck with the sale.

Another option is to use a Raspberry Pi and your DCC systems computer interface to connect to your DCC System.

We installed a system like this at Emrig.  The Raspberry Pi acts as a Wifi access point and is running JMRI and runs the WiThrottle Server.  The Pi is then connected to a Digitrax PR3 which in turn connects to the Digitrax command station we run the club layouts off of. Users load either Engine Driver (for Android users) or WiThrottle (for apple users) onto their phones.  The connect to the Wifi access point and then happiness is, they can run their trains.

The system has been running for the last 9 months or so without any problems.

LNWI from Digitrax will replace most of these items in a flash. I used it last night for the first time and I was so surprised how quick and simple it was!
