Home layout of member Kevin C
« on: September 16, 2015, 02:34:25 PM »
So I spent quite some time at this amazing layout on 3 levels with 2 helices (I think). That's not true really - the one is a proper helix but the other is this complex masterpiece that puts a normal helix to shame.

It was nice to spent some time with my old mate and fellow founding member of Cape Town Ntrak Club.

Again I'm letting the pictures do the talking.

And all you touch and all you see

Yes those helixes look very well built.
Well done.

P.S. Those coffee mugs look out of scale.  :lamer:

That is very neat bench work and those helixes, wow, I'm impressed. I see it is all laser-cut sections. What technology can do for us these days, just awesome.

Thank you for the comments guys.

I have been busy this holiday with a few projects on the layout. I have installed the backdrop behind helix 1 and started construction of the town of Peshastin " Washington " on top of the helix. Compare this scene to the first photo above taken by Ed when he visited in September.

Looking awesome  :thumb:
I would put the helix behind glass or perspex so that you could see them. Just to show off.

Funny...both his wife and me told him the same!

I tend to agree, we spend a lot of time designing and building a layout to show of our trains in beautiful scenes, but end up hiding them in staging yards and run them half the time out of sight behind the scenery.

I am still pondering what to do there. I will probably keep some sections of the helix open.

I finally got cracking on some scenery work which keeps me coming back for more. Very relaxing. After work I go and spend about an hour in the evening. On Sunday I will post a before and after photo of the section I am currently working on.

Love the idea of the perspex around the helix. It gives the hobbyist time to admire their handy work and the trains. ;D

Progress on my layout continues with me busy with the scenery on the top level. I have decided to work from the the top down so any mess that falls from the top level does not mess up any scenery below. As mentioned in a previous post, I am dividing the top level into sections between the steel upright supports and working on that section only until the scenery is 100% complete including the top facia, light box with lights working. I will then continue with the next section.

I have taken a before photo shown below, and was only going to post once the 100% stage was reached but it is a time consuming process, which I am really enjoying. I therefore decided to show the latest update which I feel is about 50%.
I am working from the back to the front so there is still the track ballasting to do and then on to the foregound detail.

Below are the before and after photo's to this point.
