Layout Design / Re: New layout room and thus new old layout

The progress that you are making in your train room is awesome Ed. I really think the shelf in front of the window is a brilliant idea. The final result will be amazing. I am hoping that one day I will make my way over there and see it myself.

Hi All.

Just a shout out to the N Scale modellers in SA. My wife and myself have now settled down in Texas USA and managed to get my N Scale Store remodelled and online. Still a bit of work to do but finally open for business. The property has a barn which we have re-purposed into a model train store specialising in the sale of American and Canadian N Scale models. I arrived here in December and started work just before the new year. The images below show the progress.

My website address is www.nscalewherehouse.com

For Sale or Trade / N Scale Layout Items for Sale
« on: August 09, 2018, 08:25:27 PM »
I am breaking up my layout and would like to sell some of the pieces as follows :-

Helix 1 : R4000
7 Turn helix connecting the four levels of my layout. A double mainline connects Level 1 to Level 4 and a single mainline connects Level 2 to Level 3. The helix comprises of approximately 70 lengths of Peco Code 80 flex track.
The entrance heights are as follows:- Level 1 – 0mm. Level 2 – 60mm. Level 3 -240mm and Level 4 – 530mm. These heights can be adjusted. The helix is free standing on four wooden legs.

Helix 2 : R1000
5 Turn helix that connects Level 1 to Level 2 on the opposite end of the layout. This helix consists of approximately 20 lengths of Peco Code 80 flex track. The deck seperation height for this helix is 330mm.

The wood segments of both helices have been lasercut from 9 mm plywood.

Steel Uprights and shelf brackets: R200 per upright.
I designed the steelwork so that the layout can be freestanding - ( No holes have been drilled into the walls. All the steel is Mild Steel that has been powder coated. There are 8 uprights that include the brackets for the top shelf ( Level 1 ) of the layout and the Light Box.

As I start to dis-assemble the layout I will determine what benchwork I can incorporate into my next layout and what I can add to the for sale list.
Additional photos can be seen in the layout showcase section of this forum.
If interested, please phone or sms me on 0761909494, or e-mail me at kevin.ebotse@gmail.com or  kevin@laserfab.co.za

I have just read this thread for the first time from start to finish.

It is such an interesting design.  The workmanship is also briliant.

Well Done.  :)

Hi Steve.

LOL... I have three "N Scale" Boeing 737 fuselages that I plan to use in my own Boeing Train. Montana Rail Link mentioned that the derailment was caused by track alignment issues. I will make sure that the track is aligned correctly on my layout.  ;)

I read the article about this incident a while back. All six 737 fuselages were scrapped, cut up on site and taken back to Missoula to be shredded. I bet the owner of the insurance company had a few bad nights after that happened.

What happened to the backdrop that was on the layout before you bought it. Will that not cover the wall...

Progress on my layout continues with me busy with the scenery on the top level. I have decided to work from the the top down so any mess that falls from the top level does not mess up any scenery below. As mentioned in a previous post, I am dividing the top level into sections between the steel upright supports and working on that section only until the scenery is 100% complete including the top facia, light box with lights working. I will then continue with the next section.

I have taken a before photo shown below, and was only going to post once the 100% stage was reached but it is a time consuming process, which I am really enjoying. I therefore decided to show the latest update which I feel is about 50%.
I am working from the back to the front so there is still the track ballasting to do and then on to the foregound detail.

Below are the before and after photo's to this point.

I am glad for you Ed. We talked about a layout of your own, how many times. Finally something small to get your collection running again. I can't wait for my next trip to Cape Town. With the layout, bottomless coffee and Pink Floyd, there are going to be late nights again.

Kevin.

I am still pondering what to do there. I will probably keep some sections of the helix open.

I finally got cracking on some scenery work which keeps me coming back for more. Very relaxing. After work I go and spend about an hour in the evening. On Sunday I will post a before and after photo of the section I am currently working on.
