Here are the last two photos of the tender.
The brass section is now glued to the white metal as well as the
brass details parts have been carefully glued to the white metal casting.
Now I have to do the front of the tender, as I don't have the instructions I have to guess a
bit, but I have found a you-tube video also dealing with this tender build.
So I've learned quite a bit there.

Ed, I'm not counting hours.
What I can say is that this is giving me a lot of pleasure.

Goodness Jörg, this is absolutely AWESOME.......
I love it !!!!!! One day when I have the time I will build my D51 Steam Loco also all brass and the idea is to re-make some of the parts so it look much more realistic. Mine is just going to be slightly bigger, it's a Scale 1

Will love to see it in action soon, It's going to be a stunning loco with all the bells and wissels, very well done Jörg  :thumb:

Hi all,

this morning I blasted the front of this loco with aluminium oxide grit to clean it nicely as I want to
try and solder the wind deflectors on this evening.
There were the brass has become all dull is the area that has been blasted.
As well as the insides of the wind deflectors.

Hi all,
yes it's been a while, I did solder the first wind deflector on, but I wasn't happy with the fit.
So I removed it again and carefully removed the excess solder.
This model is becoming quite tricky to hold and most importantly secure to work on it.
I needed to make a jig to hold it and finally worked out how to end of last week.
Had to route a hollow into this block of wood and then secure the model to this.

So happy soldering, nope with the electric soldering iron I struggled to get sufficient heat into the brass to
get a nice strong joint.
Then I tried my soldering torch, it works, but I partially melted the plastic boiler! :eek2:  :blech: ::)

Hi all,

some more work on this project.
I've started fitting the supports for the wind deflectors and discovered that the two front top ones
are fitted to the nose cone, which means I have to secure this and cannot as I had initially planned
have it removable for maintenance and if needed be able to replace the speakers.
So the capacitor, weight and nose cone need to be fitted now including the wires for the speakers.
I have now opened up the underside of the boiler to be able to fit the speakers later and also if
needed replace them.
Here's a photo of all the wires going through. Six of them.

Hi all,

a bit more progress on this project.
I've started to design the electronic boards for the lights and functions.
I've also fitted some of the supports for the smoke deflectors. Very tedious task.
Put everything back together tonight to check that it all still fits and that wheels don't snag anywhere.
Underside.

If you look carefully you should see the one electronic board, copper with black markings on it.
I need to etch these now.
