Although I think Colwer and Evert are accurate in their assessment of the station building looking like it is out of place BUT if you look at German (and even Austrian or Swiss) typical towns / villages today you have an older town center or buildings and a much more modern station building. To me it looks fine. :thumb:

Unless you are modelling 1950 or even 1920 or a specific older era I think the modern station in-between old buildings all around it seems fine to me. :lamer:

You are however missing the golden modelling rule - IT'S MY LAYOUT AND WHAT I SAY GOES!!!!  :innocent: :innocent: :stir: :peep:

My main collection is Era 3, so from the 1950's on.
I do have a few Era 2 trains, late 1920's till 1940.
I also have a bit of Era 4 including the first ICE train.
So I don't concentrate on a specific Era.
Towns and stations also do get rebuilt from time to time.
I anyway have a few more modern buildings in between the old style.
Will start looking through catalogs for a few more ideas.

Aloha,
nearly a month without an update.  ???
Have done a bit of woodwork to reinforce some of the frame parts.
But the big news is that today I got something out of my cupboard that has been lying there for years.

I have temporarily mounted the next baseboard.
So now i will try out different options with my loco service station and round house which
I do not yet have.  :lamer:

So I made a mock up turntable to try out different positions.
Then out came some track and I had fun trying out ideas.
My original plan made use of 30° corners with a 553 mm radius, but I have now gone with
14°26' and 902 mm radius which has thrown my plan on its head.
It sort of still fits.
I reckon with flex track I'll get it to work out.  :thumb:
In the first photo I have put in an idea of the round house outline.
I am planning to possibly scratch build it, with a odd number of stalls. Everybody has either 3,6 or 9 stalls, I want to be different. >:D
Maybe 7 or 8.
There will also be one outside track.

Of course I also have to place the coaling station from my other thread.
I may have to make a new base for this, by changing the angles and radius of the curves this
also doesn't line up any more.
I will also now consider where to make service hatches.

Hi everybody,
I've spent some time with the track and have got it nearly right now.  :thumb:
Only the exit track from the turntable does not line up yet. Maybe I can do it in a slight curve with flex track.
I have discovered that I have quite a bit of space to continue my town and add a bit of an industrial area.
For the life of me I can't find my beer brewery.  :lamer:
My idea is to place it about where the red arrow is in the first photo.
I have also started building my switch tower as I need to work out where to place it.
Remember that I plan to build one out of two kits with a longer bridge.
I also found two small apartment buildings, lets see if I'll use them.

Hi everybody,

been going through my cupboards to look for the beer brewery which I still haven't found,
but I found an old unbuilt Faller City apartment building which is hopefully still complete.
I wonder if this will fit into my town.
Then I found a few parts of a Vollmer Round House.
Maybe I can use this as a template for the scratch building of my roundhouse.

Aloha,
I've been building kits and planning my town, industrial area and the loco yard.
Built my diesel and oil depot for the oil fired steamers.
So now have to place that in the right spot.
Found the beer brewery as well.  :thumb:
I also found a spot for that big beige building from post 1148 on the previous page that did not fit there.
I think here it looks a lot better.
Town scene will continue behind that as well.
Planning removable sections now.
Then I'll have to do some woodwork again.

Some more.
I had to re calibrate how I reduce the size of the photos, these photos I took
with my Canon 5D camera and they are huge.
