And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see

I was discussing Turbine locos with someone the other day.  Apparently most of the German Turbine technology was developed for the German war effort on the Russian front.  While there was tons of snow, there wasn't much fresh "drinkable" water for steam locos along the way.  Things were fine where there were big stations that had boilers that could melt the snow.  The solution was to build turbine locos.

It was a couple of years or so after that, that South Africa built the Class 25C locos for use in the drier regions.

Well at least that's what I was told.

I had read about them some years ago.
The Germans definitely had some interesting ideas.  >:D
Some worked some didn't.
Wolfgang did have a Trix Fine Art model of the T18 1002 that is pictured in the article.
I've seen photo's of a BR 38 with normal cylinders in front and a turbine for the tender wheels.

The website have a bunch of other stuff, like the original sketch Hitler made of the KdF or as we know it, the Beatle.

Bad site - cost a more than an hour's work...

Only an hour?  ;)

You want to see some interesting history?
Go to Germany, Sinsheim and Speyer Auto and Technical Museums.
You can spend a few days at each one.
