I take it's old brass rails? Great idea as those are not popular to use and can be better used this way. Awesome idea!

this is very embarrassing that I haven't posted here for so long.
Done little to nothing on the layout, but did spend some very nice hours just letting the trains run.
....
You have not done nothing - you have tested you track as in QA (Quality Assurance). All good companies does this!
