N Scale Canadian National - LooVille
« on: September 30, 2022, 10:08:03 PM »
So, some of you know that one of the things - Trains - Railroads I collect is Canadian National.

I already have a Atlas SD60M, 2x Atlas GP38's
Then I received 2x Kato SD40-2 at a very resealable price, so I could not say no. I bought them and decided to take the chance and re-brand them to CN.

Both are Burlington Nothern (Green and Black)
Canadian National is Black, Red with White accents. I wanted the new Logo's with the www.cn.com.

Here we go......

Picture one is the original and Picture 2 is what I wanted to do.
Lots of looking at pictures on the Internet as I wanted to get it correct.

More to follow......  :peep:

I decided to use Tamiya spray cans as I do not have a airbrush and I do not have any of the paints.
I bought the following:

  • Light Grey Fine Surface Primer
    TS-79 Semi Gloss Clear
    TS-6 Matt Black
    TS-101 Base White
    TS-49 Brilliant Red
    TS-34 Camel Yellow

Disassembly was quite a challenge, but I'm extremely careful and nothing was damaged or broken.

Now for the painting.....

I sprayed everything black first.
Then I use the Tamiya masking tape to mask the areas where I want the red.
This tape is awesome, perfect smooth edge and the tape is thin, so the paint does not leave a edge where it touch the tape.
Also the tape glue does not stay on the model once you peal it off, and I left things over night to dry.

Before I did the Red I very lightly sprayed a coat of the primer because the red does not cover well over the black.

Next was the Decals......

So loads of Youtube again......
First I sprayed the loco with the Semi Gloss Clear.
Then the Decals was cut out and soaced in luke warm water.
Then I painted Micro Set on the Loco where the Decal must go.
Decal was put in place, pushed onto the loco with an earbud and a soft brush.
Last step was Micro Sol.

I'm very happy with the outcome.
I decided to give the loco another light coat with the Semi Gloss Clear and that hide the glossy effect of the Decal.

Then it was time for assembly.....

And I had to do the 2nd Loco  O:-)

I'm really happy with the outcome and I think I have a awesome set of loco's that looks great and performs even better.
I have also fitted DCC with Sound in the one and a normal DCC decoder in the 2nd one.
