BR 03.10
« on: August 08, 2019, 10:33:30 PM »
Hi guys and girls,

I've been playing around with ideas for this loco for a long time.
I still have a last Loksound V4 decoder here and I think its time to upgrade another loco again.
Its a blue streamlined 03 steamer from the later 1930's.
With a sound conversion one of the first considerations are where to fit the speaker or speakers.
This loco has quite a bit of space in the loco body/boiler so I want to have the speakers there.
Steam sounds coming from the tender just are not right, but unfortunately in a lot of cases unavoidable.
First photo shows the new type of speakers which are supposed to give very good sound.
They come with a box to assemble, so you can decide how big you want to have it.
Bigger is better.  :D

My first idea was to glue the speaker facing down into the top of the boiler.
This would also give me space to fit a 4700µf cap.
Photo one and two.
Then it dawned on me that I could very easily damage the speaker while fitting the body to the loco with the
smoke unit connector.
So I will fit the speakers lower down facing up onto the circuit board for the wheel maintenance lights.
Photo three.
More to follow soon.

Hi guys and girls,

some more things to see and watch.  :)
Made a new draw bar between loco and tender to get them a bit closer together.
Still need a bit of filing and then some paint, but taking shape.

The difference between a standard loco and my modified one.
From 6.4 down to 4.2 mm, looking at the two locos behind each other the difference is noticeable.

In the tightest radius corner I have on my layout 553 mm the loco and tender body nearly touch.
You can see how much bigger the gap is on the standard loco.

21 pin interface fitted in the tender and the wires ready to be connected in the loco.
That's the next step.

Aloha,

all done, everything is connected. :thumb:
Now to get the correct sound file from the ESU CD and onto the decoder.
I've done it once before, but if you don't do it all the time then you forget.

Sound file installed.  :thumb:
Speed, and acceleration as well as braking all adjusted and set up for my signals. :thumb:
Now I just need to fit the cap in the tender and this conversion is completed. :)

Nice work.

The two sugar cubes produce ridiculously good sound.

Did you include a resistor and diode with your capacitor?

Take a look at the ESU website.  They have updated a number of the sound files over time which are well improved from what was included on the CD with the LokProgrammer.

Cheers,

Niel
