Scratch Build Wooden Tunnel Portal
« on: October 02, 2017, 07:58:45 AM »
Good Morning All,

I decided to build my own Tunnel Portal as to buy this one is way to expensive  :(

Timber Portal from Woodland Scenics = $10.79 + $16.86 for shipping !!!!!!
Timber Retaining Wall from Woodland Scenics = %11.75 + $8.34 for shipping......

So, I'm building my own. Cost is about R50 for the glue and blade I use  :thumb:
And my time, will, I'm having fun so who care....

I have one on my layout at the moment so got the basic dimensions from that.
Pic 01 - is the one on my layout.
Pic 02 - is my quick drawing on Paper
Pic 03 - is the transfer to the PC

So here is the actual build.

I collected wooden coffee sticks they use here at work and I cut them to size.
I glues the sticks on to cardboard I cut according to my dimensions.
I first made the flat sections and then cut a wider piece for the sides.

The next step is to build the retaining wall section and then the interior of the tunnel.
I also would like to add some lights, think it will give a nice finish to it.

Regards.

Good Morning All,

So I worked a little bit last night on the portal.
Added some bracing to the one side in front and build the retainer wall that will be on the opposite side of the bracing.

Here is a few pictures.
Enjoy.

Hope you all have a awesome weekend.
Cheers,
Evert  :thumb:

Good Morning All,

I also had good time to work this weekend.
Wife was working and my son is starting to keep himself busy so if I get the chanse I take it

Friday evening I glued everything together.
Saturday morning I gave it a good coat of wood stain.
Saturday evening I sanded it smooth again and final coat of wood stain.

Now I'm happy and it is ready for my layout  :thumb:

Regards,
Evert.
