Ballasting.
« on: May 19, 2017, 10:59:54 PM »
Hi everybody,
I have been looking for Latex glue to secure my ballast and have not been successful yet.
Okay I admit the last few weeks I have not done anything about it.  :-[
Now comes the interesting part, I read on another forum about using wall paper glue.
Apparently you mix the dry ballast 3:1 with the wall paper glue powder and apply the ballast
as normal shape it and then with a water sprayer wet it and leave for 24 hours.
Anybody ever done this or heard about it?

I'm thinking to give it a try.
What can go wrong?  >:D

Any thoughts?

Hi Jorg,

Never heard of ballasting done this way, but there's always a first time !

I would think that a fairly heavy water spray may be needed to wet the adhesive sufficiently to get it to dissolve, which could run the risk of disturbing the ballast contour / profile.    I would recommend you add a few millilitres of methylated spirits to the water spray used to get it to flow out better.

Best would be to try it out on a section of track before jumping in boots and all.  Let us know how it works out.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Jörg, to break the resistance of the water, a few drops of dish washing liquid in the ballasting "glue". Works beautifully.

Ciao.
