The Roco Digital System - and how to hack it...
« on: December 11, 2014, 11:29:37 AM »
Ok, so as I have said before, I am very keen on the Roco digital system.  It does not get nearly the amount of credit I believe it deserves...

I use the Roco system, fully integrated with my ESU ECoS. And I have no plans to dispose of it yet. in fact, if anybody has any Roco or Fleishmann MultiMaus or the start set amplifiers, I would be glad to take them off your hands...

I was very fortunate to be able to do testing of the Roco MultiMaus system.  Though the late Bryan Watson who was the local Roco agent, I got a start set with MultiMaus.  I tested it for a period of about 4 months, and reported back to Roco what I found.

VERY VERY IMPORTANT NOTE!!!
I am NOT an electronic engineer, nor am I in any way formally qualified to make these hacks and you need to understand that, if you read ANY FURTHER, and choose to attempt any of what I suggest here, YOU DO SO OF YOUR OWN FREE WILL, AND AS SUCH, TAKES ANY RESPONSIBILITY ON YOURSELF.  I CAN NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE YOU MIGHT SUFFER, OR ANY PERSONAL INJURY YOU MIGHT GET, AS A DIRECT OR INDIRECT RESULT OF YOU TAMPERING WITH THE SEALED ELECTRONIC DEVICES DISCUSSED HERE AFTER!  Anything I present to you here after, is what I have been able to achieve through experimentation, and from research on the internet. MOST OF THE THINGS I DID WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY FROM THE MANUFACTURER!!!

I have done a lot of research of the years on how to further make use of the Roco digital system.  some of the things are obvious, others are not.  the most basic things I found was using NON ROCO parts to expand the Roco system...  these are huge cost savers!  a Roco cable to connect additinal throttles will set you back R180+... but for R30 you can get a ellies brand splitter and cable, intended for your telephone that is identical (just white or cream in stead of black...)

Other things are more involved, such as mixing the Roco items with the likes of Lenz, ESU, Uhlenbrosk, etc... some things might require some basic electronic skills...

I also reveal a few 'secrets' about the Roco start set amplifier that Roco might not want you to know...

As I said.. Caveat Emptor... buyer beware... use at your own risk... you get what you paid for it...

The only guarantee I give is that everything I have DOCUMENTED, I have at least done myself, using my own equipment, and it worked as documented.  I have not yet let the magic white smoke out of any of my Roco amplifiers, LokMaus, MultiMaus, or my (very expensive) ESU ECoS II console...  touch wood, as there is a first for everything...

I have broken the document up into smaller sections to get around the list restrictions of file size.

Ed, if this is inappropriate, or you prefer not to have it here, please let me know, and will remove it...

the next part falls under the same disclaimer as above...

this is the more in depth stuff, please use with caution!!!

All the documents are in word format.  unfortunately even in PDF, I am over the 128kb file size...

if you need a file format other than word, please send me a message with your email address, and I will send you a PDF with all 4 parts together...
