Hi everyone.

I am from Knysna and just starting to get back into model railroading since my primary school years. Things surely have changed a lot from my old Lima Blue Train days!

I am starting to work on my N scale layout this weekend. I have purchased lots of flex track and some Peco turnouts.

I have not purchased any locos or rolling stock yet. I plan to go all Kato and NCE.

Any suggestions will be welcome.

Welcome Captain,
quite a few N scale members here.
Have you got any designs for your layout?
Share them with us please, then we can make suggestions where needed.
One loco and a few pieces of rolling stock are needed to test the track work as you build.
Enjoy.

Hi Captain,

Welcome to the claN.

Your choice of track is good, code 55 or 80, and insulfrog or electrofrog?  You mention going NCE so electrofrog would be the best option IMO.

Don't only limit yourself to Kato locos.   Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann (Spectrum), Fox Valley, Intermountain and Broadway Limited are all brands that run as well as Kato models, and in most cases have detail that surpasses Kato models.

As regards rolling stock, Microtrains, Athearn, BLMA, Fox Valley and ESM have IMO the best detailed freight car range, with Atlas and Intermountain trailing.

I suggest you choose a prototype railroad, and set it in an era in time and location.   This reduces the hobby spend to a manageable level and avoids ending up with an eclectic mix of equipment.

Enjoy the hobby,
Steve

Good Morning,

Welcome back to the hobby and awesome to see another N scaler  :thumb:

Peco is a good choice. I use Peco Code 80 and with ElectroFrog Points.
I can run my layout DC or DCC and I use the Digitrax System. NCE is also very good.

Do you have a plan in mind? And what would you model? And any specific Trains you would like to collect? And yes, Kato, Atlas, Bachmann (Spectrum), Fleichmann, MiniTrix..... All AWESOME trains with great details.
You can talk to BigEd or myself if you are looking for N Scale stock.

Enjoy the stay and please ask if you need any help.
Cheers,
Evert
