Hey Ed, Evert,

Thanks for the kind words and the advice.

I resized the click targets on the left - I think it works better now.

The pictures only becoming clickable after a while is a bit of a problem for navigating through things at a decent speed. Will have to look at changing my hosting in the near future.

Thanks Guys:)

Hey Ed,

Thanks for checking it out :)

The social share icons I'll have a look at, weird that they're oversized on your size. Mobile or PC? Browser?

The pictures on the main page are all clickable, but once again, I'll have a look based on how you were accessing it.

Thanks for the input :)

Hi Guys,

I haven't posted on here in toooooo long.

The reason for my absence is my work on my model railroad website, TrainTry (www.traintry.com).

I created TrainTry as a resource for people new to model railroading, as well as to add value to the greater MRR community.

I would really appreciate your comments on the site, any suggested improvements, content ideas, guest posts, etc.

Anyone that has any items available to lend me that I could review on the site, ranging from Locomotives, to Starter Sets, to DCC Cabs, to general accessories; I would be most grateful.

Please let me know what you think :)

Regards,

Rick

I can bear witness to the layout taking shape 😃 It looks really good, and will be a nice layout for both function, operation and also just to let the trains run. The scenery also looks awesome 😃

How about some fotos Of the layout?

South African Railways - Suid-Afrikaanse Spoorweë / Re: SAR Show & Tell

I'll start it off...

Drove home today in Somerset West and passed 4 beautiful SAR Class 35's MUed together. A Class 35-400 follow by 3 Class 35-000's hauling a load a malt and barley.

Had a nice chat to the conductor and the driver who gladly showed me around in the cab. The need for the 4 locos on the small train is the hottentots-holland mountains that the train needs to climb.

Hi All,

I thought it would be nice to put together some photos of SAR locos and steamers that anyone sees around today.

Post a Photo, tell us where you saw her, and what she was hauling. Any extra details are welcome :)

Anyone keen?

I still see a few nice Diesel Electrics every now and then.

Rick

Forum News, Updates and Help / Photo Posting Update
« on: October 29, 2015, 05:24:08 PM »
Hi Guys,

BigEd had a modification done to the site today. The mod allows you to insert images into your post with more ease than it currently takes.

You'll see the button "Add image to post" button is new, just above the text box where you type.

When you want to insert a photo, click "add image to post"

Then you get to this screen, which opens in a new window.

Click "Browse" to select an image from your PC, choose if you want to resize it (a good size is Message Boards - 640x480, but this doesn't make much of a difference) mark it as family friendly. Then click "Upload."

The photo uploads and the screen goes blank. You can the navigate back to the post window and you'll find the image URL already in the place where you were last typing.

If anything doesn't work as it should, leave a reply here and we'll see what the issue is,

Regards,

Rick

Beginner Q & A / Track Brands
« on: October 21, 2015, 06:45:20 AM »
Morning Guys,

Me and all my questions again  ???

I want to find out what HO track brand is most popular (readily available) and supported in South Africa? Where are the best places to order from, or is importing the best way?

Thanks,

Rick

DCC Forum (Digital Command Control) / Digitrax Zephyr Xtra
« on: October 21, 2015, 06:43:06 AM »
Hi Guys,

I've been doing quite a bit of research with regards to DCC, and my heart seems set on the Digitrax Zephyr Xtra due to its expandability, the fact that it has a physical cab, etc. I have looked the the z21, and the Z21, but they fall way outside of my budget at this stage, and I would want a physical cab like a MultiMaus along with the z21 as a touch screen doesn't feel as if it will be as much fun as the hands-on experience.

I'm not in the market for anything yet, will probably only be able to buy something next year, but who are the most reasonable suppliers to get it from locally, or is it cheaper to import? Is there possibly anyone selling one 2nd hand?

Thanks for the info  ;D

Rick

Thanks for all the comments and input.

My conclusion, start from scratch and don't get carried away with the software. Once I've decided/been advised on the best track brand to use, I will start again.

My next layout will be here posted again :)
