Hi all,
thanks for the positive comments.
I've been spending time on the tender.
First I removed and opened the cast on water hatch.
Then I made a brass ring and prepped the Weinert water hatch with a hinge.
My plan is to have this working with a small servo in the tender.  :)
Then I removed the cast on lights and hand rails.
Replaced with brass parts.
The lights will get individual Led's.

I've also cut out the front of the boiler/smoke box.
I have a beautiful cast brass one from Weinert.
The light casting is soldered in and I had to modify that first to be able to
fit an Led and then mill a channel for the wires into the underside. Second photo.

Hi all,

slowly but surely I'm making progress on this project.
Today I temporary fitted the movable plate between loco and tender. We don't want the stoker
to fall in between the two.

Hi all,

okay I've now done a mock up of the side and rear walls of my roundhouse.
I lowered the wall by 5 mm's.
Looking at the first one that I did it was just a bit to high for me.

First photo I've cut away the door.
Second photo hinge pin is in and the door can move.
Still need to figure out how to mount the tiny spring so that the door is in closed position
and only opens when its pushed open.

Hi all,
a bit of progress on this project.
The tender doors that close the gab between the tender and cab.
These are cast onto the tender at the factory.
I have a pair of brass doors that are hinged, so that they can open and close.  :thumb:
First photo shows the original tender, black arrow shows the door that now has to be removed.
Red arrow the hinge pin that needs to be replaced.
Second photo I holding the brass door in place to see for fit.

Hi all,
I've spent some time playing around with ideas for my roundhouse.
Today I made a first mock-up of one of the side walls.
Using a Vollmer roundhouse wall as a template I made it a bit higher, and also placed less windows.
The windows are bigger thou.
I have also altered the roof line.
Maybe I will get some more cardboard and build a complete mock-up and see how I like it.
The windows.

Now I need to order some more.
In the meantime I'm also considering the actual structure of the round house.
I have ordered a few items from Auhagen, they have a very nice "building blocks" system
with different walls, windows and roofs.
Length wise it doesn't work for me see first photo.
But I also have some Faller wall sheets. perfect length, but then I will have to make my own
window frames.
Busy considering different options and ideas.

Hi all,

I want the track in the round house to be closed so that the workers can walk across.
These grids from Weinert are Nickel Silver so conduct power.
I soldered three pieces together, nice and straight using my home made solder jig
from a few pages back.
Add a fine wire at one end and glue very carefully with small amounts of CA to the 1,5 x 1,5 mm
strip styrene that I had glued to the track ties.
First photo of the long grid.
Second photo of it fitted.

 :howzit:
Nearly four years since the last post here.  :lamer:
Somehow with me working on the layout all the time this project ended up in a box stached away.
Yesterday after cleaning my work bench a bit I decided to pull this out of its box.
Sorted parts which I had received after packing it away.
I now have the first handrail loosely fitted, still one more hole to drill.

 built Mia a play kitchen.

That is far more important, your kids are young only once. I'm sure that her look of happiness
will stay with you forever.
Before you know it the kids are grown and out the house.

Did run a few trains at least... :innocent:

Isn't that the most important part?
