Title: LooVille Marklin mini-club Double track Layout
Post by: LooVille on January 16, 2021, 10:38:24 PM
Good Evening All.

Yea, I bought a already finished layout  O:-)
It is a Marklin mini-club layout 1120x545mm in size.
Starter Set 81864 was used and some extra track and points was used to build a extra loop on the outside.

The landscape was built as a contour map and the land is painted white and the water grey.
A friend of mine bought it and he decided to sell all his z and focus on N.
Because it is such a unusual layout I decided to buy it over from him.

Here is some pictures of the layout when I bought it.

My idea is to keep the layout as is but with minor changes to the track.
Currently I'm busy sanding the landscape and will spray it white again.
The water, I will spray 3 different shades of blue.
Then a friend of mine is laser cutting pine trees and I will spray them very light green.

I will also add the Station as well as the Marklin platform that was included in the Starter Set.
I'm not painting this at all, just build as is.

The whole idea is to keep the focus on the trains.

Think it will make for a nice display layout and I definitely like running trains on it

Keep a close watch as I will post some pictures soon again.

Cheers, Evert

I've seen this before here on the forum.

Yes Jörg, Andries built the layout, Frans bought it from him and he just sold all his z items.
Unfortunately most of the track came loose so I decided it is a good opportunity to just take everything off and clean it well.

So I sanded the whole layout and I'm busy making the changes to to board to make it slightly longer and I have also cut 20mm thick legs and they will also support the cover I still have to build.

Here is some pictures of the work I have done over the weekend.

Cheers, Evert

Good Morning All,

So the past weekend I spent quite some time working on the layout.
Got all the wood cut.
Then fitted it and then lots and lost of sanding and then some more

Finally I could start with the spray process  :thumb:
Coming together very nicely.

Next stem is to spray the blue parts with a high gloss clear coat.
Then the track can go back on the layout. Can't wait.

Cheers, Evert and enjoy the pictures.

Good Morning All,

I finished the Gloss on the water sections, Think it worked very well.
Then late last night I moved the layout into the house and I started laying track again.

Most is done and I cleaned each section also.
I also replaced the power connecting track and fitted the marklin version.
I also still want to fit a decoupler, so that will come tonight

Cheers, Evert and enjoy the pictures.

I think the trees should be abstract too - something like two flat cut outs in a cross section...

See pic... just in white or gray

Hi Evert,
I like how you made the water different shades of blue.
Why don't you make the landscape which is now just white, different shades of grey?
Starting white at the bottom and getting darker as you go up.
Just a thought.

Mmmmmmm......  ::) very possible as both the mountain structures are loose, but to paint that will be a nightmare. I'll have to think about it.

I was on Standby this weekend and monitoring Jobs is a very boring task, so looooong late hours.
I sat this past week and decided on my aim with this layout.
I want to promote or display Marklin..... Track, Trains, Buildings......
So, I have done the landscape and is quite happy with that.
The track is done also, not fixed yet and I made the changes and it works for me.
The Starter set came with a Station, so I want to build and add that. I also bought a platform set.
I also have loads of Catenary and I will be running Electric Locomotives, so why not...... It is Marklin after all.

Yea, I know, I'm crazy  :innocent:, but it is done now....... many, many hours of working and testing. WOW.......  :thumb:

Track as well as Catenary is fitted and glued down.
Next step is to design the control panel and get everything wired up.

And here goes the fitting of the track and Catenary.

Enjoy the pictures.

Hi Evert,
catenary in Z scale you don't see that very often.
Well done for trying that.  :thumb:
I see you have a BR 103, I also have one, but the original colour scheme.

Good Morning All.....

Lots of testing and running of trains to make sure everything is working well.
So finally I was happy and I decided to fit all the wiring. I also decided to add two plugs on the side of the layout to make everything easier.
So I bought 2 25pin Serial Port PC Plugs, I also cut the holes and fitted a frame around the layout and painted it black.

Picture 1 and 2.

Then I started with all the wiring and soldering everything together.
I still have to test and will then fix the wires with some silicone.

Enjoy the pictures and we will speak again.
Cheers, Evert

Very neat.
That is the advantage of a small portable layout, when its time to do the wiring just turn
it upside down and work normally.  :thumb:

Good Morning All.....

Right so work is a bit slow at the moment, but I still have a hour or so in the evenings to do my own thing.
I have been running trains for the past week with the wiring and it works well.

So I went to me dad and we cut some wood so I can build the control panel.
I have also designed one again in CorelDraw and it was cut out in Perspex for me.

Last night I fitted all the wiring for the power to the track and ran a few trains. It all works very well.
Next step is to finish off the wiring for the points.

Enjoy the pictures and speak again soon.
Cheers, Evert.

Good Morning All,

So, last night I decided I have to take on the wiring for the points
8 points is 16 wires (blue, left and rights) and 2 power (grey and yellow).

I made up all the wires for the external plug and solder everything together and fitted the Marklin connector plugs for the point boxes.

10PM power was going off so I had to stop there for now.
Tonight I will connect all the yellow power wires and then I can test

Cool, speak again, Cheers, Evert

Good Morning All......

Electrical work is done for now......
Everything is connected up and I started to test last night.
Looks like everything is working well.
I also added a isolater between the inner and outer loops so I can run both controllers on the track or one on catenary and oe on the track.
Very cool......  :thumb:

Cheers, Evert and hope you all have a great day and weekend.
Speak again soon.

Just keep the transformer on dry land.

Hello All.......

Right, so I have been playing with the idea to re-build this layout.
I want to recreate it using Plexiglass  Think it will give an awesome effect.

Then I also received a Marklin mini-club turntable as a gift. So I want to incorporate it into the layout.
So here is my December Holiday project  :innocent:

I fanally managed to buy the Plexiglass.
3 different colour Blue and Milky White, all 3mm thick.

Post by: LooVille on December 21, 2022, 04:01:30 PM
........ Step 2 .........

I do not have the plans, so I traced the shaped onto news paper, cut it out and redraw on the the Plexiglass.
Then I used my Dremel to cut it, works extremely well.

This is going to look awesome  :thumb:

Post by: LooVille on December 21, 2022, 09:58:46 PM
........ Step 3 .........

All the blue pieces was cut.
Now for the white one.

Need the track to make sure everything lines up where it is supposed to....

Title: Re: LooVille Marklin mini-club Double track Layout
Post by: LooVille on December 21, 2022, 10:30:47 PM
I stripped everything off the original board.
Cleaned all the track and transferred it over to the new layout.
Then I tried to fit the turntable so it make sense and so that it will work.
Making sure I can park a loco and also have enough space to run it off through the turntable onto a siding and back onto the layout.
Think this will work well.......

I used Lego to pack as the turntable need 40mm clearance
Title: Re: LooVille Marklin mini-club Double track Layout
Post by: LooVille on December 21, 2022, 10:32:50 PM
........ Step 4 .........

Last few cuts for the main layout.
Final test fit before I start to glue the layers together......

Then just to make my life a bit more difficult I decided to make the bridge from clear Plexiglass

I also bought a 8mm clear rod. This I cut 6mm and 3mm pieces for the supports.

No I can put the track back.

Everything is back on and spaced and taped.

Next is to drill the holes for the wires.
Then I can fit the catenary base plates again and then permanently fit the track.

Right, last small stretch for the layout.......

Catenary is back in place.
I also marked and drilled the holes for the wiring from the points and the track power.

Then the big task to do all the wiring. Wow  took 3 days to complete, but I'm happy.
Everything is tested and is working like it should.

I also added some feet to the layout again. 100mm x 40mm 3mm Plexiglass block with a rubber bottom.
Just round it off nicely.

I have also cut in some handles on the fascia and glues in some wooden blocks on the back. It is quite surprising on how heavy this layout have become.
