Title: My first layout
Post by: woody1 on September 01, 2016, 09:13:50 AM
After a few trails on where to put our layout, I settled in my working corner next to my laser cutter and my computer. Also close to my 3D printer.  So everything I need is right at hand.
Plan to do a CANOPY above it with some sort of dust cover to cover everything when not in use.
Size of table is 2000 x 1200.
Nice and high
Made it this size because I found a nice layout that can run multiple trains at the same time.
Table is attached to the wall on the far side.
Frame from 44 x 44 pine
12mm Chipboard on top of that.
Then a 50mm thick High Density ISOBOARD polystyrene layer on top of that.

Now to find LOTS of time to get going.

It is the plan from that chap doing the Arduino DCC ++.
I plan to use a lot of Arduino on this system.... up to full automation like he dit on one of his Youtube videos.
Let's see if I am clever enough. or  :loco:

Its a learning process, take your time.
Accept that you are going to make mistakes, but be prepared to learn from them.

Met another guy and he is stopping with N and only carrying on with his HO setup.
All the buildings I got when I bought my MiniTrix stuff in Holland was all HO scale.
So we SWOPPED some HO for N-Scale buildings.
In the back his old N-scale layout was just gathering dust.....so for a small fee I agreed to remove it off his property to make the place looking tidier.  :thumb:

Nice :) and it sounds like a good trade.

I see you got a roundhouse out of the deal. That is the Heljan 6 bay kit, I also have one on my extension.
I also see that you are missing a door on it, I have lots of spare parts, so if you are interested I can send you some.

Cheers,
Evert.

Great.  Just the one door is missing.  If you have one I would really be a happy chappy.
I might buy some stuff of BE.... so maybe we can pop it into the same bag.
What about a turntable to go with this ?

Hi Woody,

OK awesome, I'll chat to Ed. I see him again tomorrow.
You will have to paint the door white to match the rest, but that should not be a problem.

No, unfortunately, turntables is scares and very expensive :(
Keep a lookout on BidOrBuy, you might strike it lucky.

Cheers,
Evert

I will not be buying his latest haul of tracks, so keep it and maybe he has something else in the future where we can combine shipping.

I must say that I got the turnouts and extra track for a good price, but it took me all evening to clean the old soldered rail joiners off the turnouts.
Now to the shops to go and buy new joiners

Hence the price. :peep:

At least I kept you one evening out of trouble >:D

Seriously, track have become ridiculously expensive. I went into our local shop the other day and saw a new Peco double slip (can't remember insul- or electrofrog) but at R1013 each they can stick it - I might even assist...

Not much on the train track building front.
Spend most of my time building my sidecar onto the BIG bike.

But in the evenings I sat down in front of my computer and try and get to grips with Arduino and DCC ++.

Well after 3 weeks or so I can no program my diesel loco with sound and my diesel without sound to run under LMRI.
What a learning curve.

First of all I this is my first encounter with DCC and the first time I had an Arduino in my hands. But it is fun and satisfying when you get it right...EVENTUALLY.

Nou gaan ons treitjies ry pappie  ;D
