So with a little push from two other people here I have now joined.
I have a lot of N-Scale MiniTrix stuff that I bought when we lived in Holland.
DC stuff only.
Always wanted to go DCC but found it a bit expensive until I visited the club in Benoni and was told of a shop around the corner.
Well I could not resist. :D
I now have a Fleishmann DCC system.
Two Diesel locos one with SOUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a difference. I will never buy another loco without sound. IT just makes such a difference.
Got a place ready today. It is a U shaped layout but with a piece on the open U side that can pick up when needed.
I plan to do full circles around the layout with lots of turnouts to shunting yards etc.
The two long sections are 1800 mm x 600 mm wide.
They are joined by 800 mm x 600 mm on the short side.
The 800 mm pickup part on the far end is 300 mm wide.
What can I build on this ?
Thank's
Kobus

Hi Kobus,
Was it you I met at the club the one Saturday. If I remember, you were running a Minitrx Loco? I seem to remember your son was running some HO on the analogue layout. We were busy commissioning the n gauge layout.
Or are you someone else I have not met yet :)
Best regards,
Glynn

Glynn, Kobus is a mate from a bike forum that me and Capeklr belongs to and we had to get him here. At the same time I had him go visit you Emrig boys. Look after him well for me please...

Welcome Kobus,
in that space with N scale you can build quite a bit, but try not to get to much onto the layout.
Try and draw some plans and we will give you input for improvements.

Hi Kobus,
Welcome to the board and back into the hobby.
Regarding designing a plan for the space you have available, I suggest you FIRST talk to as many people as you can about the hobby, and decide on what YOU want from the hobby before you start anything.
Do you want to run primarily trains or do switching, long trains or short consists, passenger or freight, older/shorter loco's and rolling stock, or longer modern equipment, type of scenery, etc., the list goes on and on. All of these will impact your design.
Talking to fellow model railroaders will give you a far better insight into the design considerations for a layout, and what the pitfalls can be for someone new/fresh into the hobby.
Good luck.
Steve :)

Thank everybody. Will do the homework first. At this time just laying out some tracks to get the FEEL again.

Welcome to the forum Kobus.
That space would suite a nice small O scale layout. :stir: :stir:
Look forward to seeing your work.
