Title: LED upgrade
Post by: capeklr on December 26, 2015, 09:13:29 PM
White and especially warm white Led's are a fairly recent development and also cost a bit more than the regular red, green and yellow Led's.
Märklin unfortunately stayed with yellow Led's for a long time, I have read the description on another forum as " piss yellow"  >:D and I tend to agree with that.
One of my favourite Loco's the BR 10 steam is a beautiful model spoilt by these yellow Led's.
I had a bit of time the last few days, nice and quiet and I set about changing this.
Take out the circuit boards, desolder the Led's and resistors, solder on the new warm white Led's and resistors with a higher resistance as these Led's are a lot brighter.
Quite a tricky job to get these little SMD Led's of the circuit board without damage to the surrounding components.
Here you can see the Loco circuit board, she also has service lights for the wheels. I have replaced a few of them so that the difference can be seen. This is before the resistors have been changed.

The rear lights in the tender was quite a challenge, the decoder and sound module as well as the speaker are also in there so I had to be careful.

Tomorrow I will assemble the unit and take a few more photo's.
Must say I've had an enjoyable 2 days working on my models.
Cheers.

Not yet Werner, still want to do more on the BR 10, have bought parts for the next mod a few years back and now can't find them anywhere.  ::)  :bluduh:
First want to finish this one.
